Local High School Senior Invited to try out for Jr. National Ultimate Frisbee Team
Madison Central senior, Amit Tzivion, has been selected to try out for the Junior National team that will represent the United States in the 2012 World Junior Ultimate Frisbee Championships held in Dublin, Ireland from August 12-18, 2012.

The sport of Ultimate Frisbee is a hybrid between football and basketball which is played with teams of seven and a disc. Teams move the frisbee towards an end-zone on a football-sized field, but players are not allowed to run with the disc in their hands. Simple rules for Ultimate and places to play around Mississippi can be found at http://get.to/simplerules

The sport is fast-growing in the state with teams from several cities, colleges and high schools participating. Tzivion started a club at Madison Central to organize players and challenge teams from other high schools from around the region. The team, called the “Slo Bros”, won the Mississippi High School Championship last year and look to do the same this year. On the weekend of March 13th, Amit will travel to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to compete with forty other high school students at the tryout for one of twenty-six spots. Once the team is selected the players will enter a one week training camp prior to traveling to the tournament in Dublin, Ireland. When asked about the opportunity Tzivion said, “I’m really excited about the tryouts. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and a great honor to have the chance to represent my country at the World Junior Ultimate Championships and compete at the highest level of Ultimate, even if I don’t end up making the team.”
